Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 2026
The short version: we don't sell your data, we don't allow third-party advertising on My Plantfolio, and we don't use your information for targeted advertising. Your plants, photos, conversations, and other Plantfolio content remain associated with your account and are used to provide the features you choose to use.
What we collect
To provide My Plantfolio, we may collect:
- Account information — such as your email address and information needed to create and maintain your account. Authentication is handled by our authentication provider; My Plantfolio does not store your password.
- Content you add — including plants, photos, care logs, notes, Clippings, to-dos, locations, and conversations you have with the My Plantfolio assistant.
- Usage data — information about how My Plantfolio and its features are used so we can understand what's helpful and improve the experience.
- Diagnostic data — technical information about errors, crashes, performance, and app activity that helps us keep My Plantfolio working reliably and securely.
- Notification information — if you enable push notifications, information necessary to deliver them to your device, such as a device push endpoint, security keys, and timezone.
Cookies, analytics & diagnostics
My Plantfolio uses cookies and similar technologies where necessary to operate the app, keep you signed in, maintain security, and remember necessary preferences.
We also use analytics and diagnostic tools to understand how My Plantfolio is used, monitor performance, and identify technical problems.
Some optional product analytics are enabled only after you accept analytics through My Plantfolio's cookie or analytics preferences. Other limited service-level analytics and diagnostic information may be processed as part of hosting, performance monitoring, security, and error reporting.
We do not use cookies or analytics for third-party advertising or to track you across unrelated websites or apps for advertising purposes.
We do not sell your data
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information, plant data, photos, or AI conversations.
We do not allow third-party advertising within My Plantfolio, and we do not share your activity with advertising networks or data brokers for targeted advertising.
How we use your data
We use your information to:
- Provide and operate My Plantfolio's features
- Save and organize your plants, photos, care history, Clippings, tasks, and other Plantfolio content
- Provide plant identification, photo analysis, personalized plant assistance, and other AI-powered features
- Allow the My Plantfolio assistant to answer questions using relevant information you've saved about your plants and collection
- Personalize parts of the experience based on your collection and how you use My Plantfolio
- Keep your account and the service secure and prevent abuse
- Understand how My Plantfolio is used and improve the app
- Diagnose and fix technical problems
- Send notifications you've chosen to receive
Your Plantfolio content is private to your account by default. My Plantfolio does not make your private Plantfolio content available to other users unless you deliberately use a feature designed to share it.
AI features
My Plantfolio uses artificial intelligence to help identify plants, answer plant-care questions, analyze plant photos, notice patterns and changes over time, and provide personalized observations based on information you've saved about your plants and collection.
When you use AI-powered features, information relevant to the feature may be processed by our AI service providers. Depending on what you're doing, this may include your question, plant details, care history, relevant conversation context, collection information, or plant photos.
My Plantfolio may also use AI to create or improve personalized observations about your collection and to help the assistant better understand useful context about your plants and preferences.
My Plantfolio currently uses third-party AI service providers including OpenAI, Anthropic, and ElevenLabs, the last of which produces the Companion's spoken voice. Under their current commercial API policies, these providers do not use API inputs and outputs to train their general models by default. They may retain API data for limited periods for purposes such as safety, abuse prevention, and legal compliance. Their data-handling and retention practices are governed by their own terms and policies and may change over time.
If you talk to the Companion by voice, your recording is sent to OpenAI to be turned into text, and spoken replies are produced by ElevenLabs (or OpenAI) from the Companion's written reply. My Plantfolio does not store voice recordings.
My Plantfolio's AI is designed to work with your own Plantfolio information and the content you provide to the app. It is not intended to provide access to other users' private information or My Plantfolio's private administrative or technical systems.
AI can make mistakes. Plant identifications, photo observations, diagnoses, and care suggestions are intended to be helpful guidance and should not be treated as guaranteed or professional advice.
If you report an assistant reply, we receive that reply, the message it answered, and anything you add, so we can review it and improve the assistant.
We do not sell your plant information, photos, or AI conversations.
Photos
Photos you add to My Plantfolio are stored privately and used to provide features such as your plant photo history, plant identification, photo analysis, and comparisons over time.
When a feature requires visual AI analysis, the relevant photo may be securely provided to an AI service provider for processing.
My Plantfolio may also look up reference photos and plant-name information from public sources: photo libraries such as Wikimedia Commons and iNaturalist, and general web searches run through our AI provider, using plant names, botanical terms, or a short search phrase drawn from your question. Your private plant photos are never sent to these sources.
The My Plantfolio assistant is designed to work only with plant photos available to it through your Plantfolio or that you choose to provide. It is not designed to browse your device's camera roll, unrelated personal files, or photos belonging to other users.
Conversations & personalization
Conversations you have with the My Plantfolio assistant may be stored with your account so the assistant can maintain useful conversational and plant context.
My Plantfolio may also derive and store useful information from your interactions — such as plant-related preferences or collection context — to make future assistance more relevant.
Deleting an individual conversation may remove the conversation transcript without necessarily removing information that was separately saved or derived for personalization. You can permanently delete your account and associated My Plantfolio data as described below.
Notifications
If you enable notifications, My Plantfolio may send:
- Care & task reminders — reminders related to plants and tasks you've chosen to track.
- Plantfolio Updates — occasional observations, facts, memories, milestones, or other interesting things related to your plants, collection, or plant interests.
These notifications are currently delivered through push notifications when enabled on your device.
You can manage available notification preferences in Settings → Notifications, and you can also revoke push-notification permission through your device settings.
Plantfolio Updates
My Plantfolio may surface updates about your collection, such as a photo memory, care milestone, plant you haven't checked in on recently, or something interesting about a plant or group of plants you own.
Some updates are identified using information already stored in your Plantfolio, such as plant information, photo dates, care history, and when plants were added.
My Plantfolio may also use AI to help create or phrase certain Plantfolio Updates and may occasionally share broader plant knowledge that is relevant to your collection or plant interests.
Your private Plantfolio information is not shared with other My Plantfolio users as part of this process.
Service providers
We use trusted service providers to help operate My Plantfolio. Depending on the feature, these may include providers supporting:
- Authentication and database services
- Application hosting
- Private photo and file storage
- AI-powered features
- Analytics and product improvement
- Error and performance monitoring
- Push notifications
- Plant reference-image searches
These providers may process information on our behalf as necessary to provide their services. We do not authorize them to sell your personal information or use it for their own targeted advertising.
Your choices and your data
You can manage and update much of your Plantfolio information directly within the app.
You may request access to, correction of, or an export of personal information associated with your account by contacting us using the information below.
You can permanently delete your My Plantfolio account from Settings → Delete account. If you can't sign in, or no longer have the app, the steps and an email option are at myplantfolio.ai/delete-account.
When you delete your account, My Plantfolio deletes account-controlled data associated with it, including your Plantfolio records and conversations, and attempts to delete stored photo files associated with your account. Your authentication account is also deleted.
Some information may remain temporarily with service providers in backups, security records, abuse-prevention systems, analytics, diagnostic logs, or other records governed by their own retention practices or where retention is required for legitimate legal, security, fraud-prevention, or operational purposes.
Data security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect the information entrusted to My Plantfolio.
Plantfolio content is private by default, and access to private content is designed to be limited to the account it belongs to and to the services necessary to provide My Plantfolio's features.
No method of storing or transmitting information online can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Children's privacy
My Plantfolio is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information to My Plantfolio, please contact us so we can address it.
Changes to this policy
Using My Plantfolio is also subject to our Terms of Use.
We may update this Privacy Policy as My Plantfolio evolves. If we make meaningful changes, we'll update the date above and, where appropriate, let you know through the app or another appropriate method.
